Flights Orchard farm at Little Marcle, is 90 acres of clay/loam soils and has been in Organic production for 13 years. It is the only long term, sustainable form of fruit and vegetable production and is reliant upon a balanced approach and good crop rotation.

At any one time a maximum of 75% of the land is in production and all the crops are rotated every year. That means there is no mono culture and that bio diversity is a great deal higher than in conventional systems.

We grow about 20 different crops each year from potatoes & strawberries to radish & sweet corn. As big a range as is practical to give great variety and freshness in the boxes each week.

Free range Hampshire pigs are another part of the farming enterprise. We have 6 sows and a boar called Badger. The sows have about 1 3/4 litters per year and have special nursery kennels. We occasionally in bad weather move the pigs into a deeply strawed yard, but they are generally (piglets as well) able to roam the fields as they please. This again is a slower far less intensive method of production with far more contented animals.

The production methods in organic production result in mineral and vitamin packed vegetables and fruit. Studies have shown that organic fruit & vegetables contain significantly higher levels of vits & minerals than their conventional counterparts. Not only are they better for you because of this the taste is much better.
